Exercise is one of the two key components to losing weight the other, controlling your food intake will never be effective by itself. The only permanent way to lose weight is to create a calorie deficit, ie burning more calories than you consume. This can be done by restricting the amount of food you eat, or increasing the amount of energy burn't through day to day activity. Better still a combination of both. Whilst all activity is good, regular exercise can force your body to change by burning fat and raising metabolism in a safe and controlled way.

Have you ever felt that you can’t lose weight because you’ve a slow metabolism? Well you could be right. Your base metabolism (the energy you need just to lie in bed) is mainly controlled by the amount of lean tissue (muscle) in your body. It takes around 50 calories a day to look after 1lb of muscle but only 2 calories for 1lb of fat.

As we grow older we lose muscle unless it’s used regularly, so the secret to boosting your metabolism is to maintain and grow more muscle! It’s that simple!

Gaining 5-6 lb of muscle will increase your daily metabolism by 200- 300 calories, helping you burn more calories than you eat, so the fat will melt away! Over a year this is equivalent to more than 2 Stone of FAT!


The only way to protect your existing muscle and grow more is to do resistance or weight bearing exercises. Women’s Workout circuit is designed to do exactly that. The circuit has been design by fitness experts to help you protect and grow all the major muscle groups, in the right proportion to look really great.

By using interval training you can get both the aerobic exercise you need for a healthy heart AND the resistance exercise to boost your metabolism (which will also helps protect you from Osteoporosis and other conditions) in just a 30 minutes workout session.


The key to using the circuit is to challenge your body to change. Working hard on the resistance machines, going as fast as you can to the point were your muscles feel exhausted at the end of the interval. Then allowing your body to recover on the resting stations.


There are two reasons why you don’t just sit down after each resistance machine. First you need to keep moving to prevent blood pooling. Second the resistance machines will get your heart going. By keeping your heart in a special zone called the aerobic training zone you’ll get the best workout. Giving your heart a full CV exercise AND burning FAT to fuel your exercise programme.


All diets try and do the same thing - restricting the intake of calories. However eliminating anything from your diet (Low Fat, Low Carb, High Fat, Cabbage Soup Only .....) will leave you nutritionally unbalanced. Which will lay down problems in years to come, and in some cases immediately!

Women's Workout believes in eating a wide range of foods that are as natural and unprocessed as possible. To avoid hunger pangs, eat foods that are low on the glycaemic index (developed by scientists to help diabetics manage their blood sugar levels).
